Political Donations

Who’s really running WA — the state government or the corporate powers?

Decisions are not always being made in the best interests of the community but in the interests of influential donors and lobby groups. Addressing the insidious influence of for profit corporations and industry lobby groups is no small task. However, if we want our government to take meaningful action on things like climate change and sustainable development, we need to diminish the influence of powerful vested interests and build our own influence.

There has been some progress on donation reforms with the introduction of caps and declaration requirements, however WA still allows for- profit companies to make political donations as well as cash-for-access to decision makers. We need to limit corporate influence on our politics and prohibit donations from for-profit companies and end cash-for-access practices.
